RUNNING CHALLENGES

Zion Ultra 100km (62.3 miles) - April 12, 2025

Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon - Oct 5, 2025

Zion Ultra 100km
(62.3 miles)
April 12, 2025

Bryan Komas' 47th birthday and three years since his cancer jounery

This will be the first 100K for Maria, Taylor Quinterro and Bryan.

The course kicks off on a double-track dirt road heading west to Gooseberry Mesa, reaching Goosebump Aid Station (mile 5.2). From here, you'll hit one of the most scenic sections—Gooseberry Mesa’s single-track trail, offering breathtaking views of Zion. The course follows pink ribbons, while mountain biking trails are marked with white dots. Halfway through the loop, you'll reach Gooseberry Aid (mile 14).

After returning to Goosebump Aid (mile 17.7), the descent down Mondo Z begins—steep, rocky, and trekking pole–worthy. At the base, Mondo Z Water Station (mile 19.2) awaits.

The next stretch leads to Virgin Desert Aid (mile 25.8), a mix of hard-packed dirt and rolling hills. This is an ideal spot to pick up a pacer before tackling the Hurricane Rim loop—an exposed, stunning trail with a hydration stop at Hurricane Rim Water Station (mile TBD). The loop continues to Virgin Dam Aid (mile 34.4), offering scenic views of the Virgin River.

Sheep Bridge Water Station (mile 38.2) is the last stop before crossing SR-9 and climbing Smith Mesa, a challenging but rewarding ascent on an old ranch road. Near the top, Smith Mesa Aid (mile 42.7) signals rough terrain ahead, especially if the ground is hardened from cattle traffic.

At Flying Monkey Water Station (mile 43.7), prepare for an extremely technical descent, including a rope-assisted section. From there, enjoy a fast downhill run to BMX Aid (mile 51.8), another great pacer pickup point.

After crossing SR-9 again, the course heads back toward Mondo Z. The familiar water station at mile 55.5 is crucial before tackling the brutal Mondo Z climb to Goosebump Aid (mile 57). The final stretch follows the same dirt road back to the finish.

Let’s do this!
